Professional Teeth Whitening: In Our Office or on the Go!

Woman Smiling | Azalea Dental

Professional teeth whitening became popular in the late 1980s, and now it is the most requested cosmetic procedure in most dental offices.

It’s not hard to see why; the process is fast, comfortable, and a relative bargain considering the transformations it can achieve. Over the years, the procedure and materials used have been refined, and now anyone with good oral health can enjoy the benefits of a sparkling smile.

Convenient Teeth Whitening Options

In-Office Treatment

The first step is a professional dental cleaning to ensure that your teeth are free of plaque and tartar that can lead to uneven whitening. Next, your dentist will use a shade guide so you can choose the sample that is a good match for your smile.

Next, since the peroxide used to whiten teeth can cause sensitivity, a gel will be used to isolate your gums from coming into contact with it. When your gums are protected, a thick whitening paste is applied to the surfaces of your teeth and allowed to do its job for about 45 to 60 minutes. The final step is to remove the paste and thoroughly clean your teeth.

With in-office whitening, you can expect to see whitening of about six to eight shades.

Professional Take-Home Kits

This is a perfect option if you’d like to whiten in the privacy of your home. Impressions of your teeth will be taken that will be used to create customized whitening trays. The advantage of customized trays is that they conform perfectly to all surfaces of your teeth for consistent results.

You will receive the trays and a supply of whitening gel, and you’ll be instructed to wear them daily for 15 to 20 minutes. After about two weeks, you can expect to see results similar to an in-office bleaching appointment.
